Description: C:\Dean Misc\mpbaptist.org site\IMG_3179.JPGMt. Pleasant's Music Director is John McCoy. John was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a child John and his family attended Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Birta, Arkansas where John was saved and baptized. He learned to sing from his mother and grandmother in Sunday School, and later with other family members in the church choir. When he was 12, he family moved to Romance, Arkansas to join a mission there. John, his sister Rebecca, and brother Jesse began singing as a trio or quartet with their mother. They made many trips to Bible School seminars, youth rallies, revivals, and other churches singing old-fashioned 4-part hymns, as well as some newer arrangements and original songs by John and Jesse. They also partnered with the West sisters from Des Arc and sang together as the group "New Life." Later, they met future brother-in-law Joshua West on a trip to Northwest Arkansas and began playing with him as a bluegrass group.

John attended Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, majoring in Music Education. During this time he married his lovely wife Amanda. Though a time in retail sales sidelined his music work, he was able to renew his focus when he, Amanda, and their 4 wonderful children moved back to Central Arkansas in 2017. John plays several musical instruments and enjoys arranging songs for worship services and teaching music to his daughters.

Mission Support

Our ministry includes support for the following mission efforts.  We always encourage prayer and material support for these laborers, and are greatly thankful for the opportunity to serve God through these special workers.

-         Al Valladares, McAllen, Texas.  Brother Al is director of the Mexican Baptist Institute, and works as an interpreter and go-between for at least 50 churches in the U.S. and Mexico.

-         Norman Pierce, Rapid City, South Dakota.  Brother Pierce oversees this small mission work and is sponsored by New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Lonoke, Arkansas where Billy Pierce is Pastor.

-         Missionary Baptist Seminary, Little Rock, Arkansas.  We provide financial support to the 84 year-old seminary.

-         Arkansas State Mission Project.  We send support to this project, which helps fund mission efforts in the state of Arkansas.
